Arthritis
Etanercept Serum-Free Process (SFP)
Purpose: Purpose of this study is to evaluate the overall safety of etanercept SFP therapy administred once weekly for 24 weeks to subjects with rheumatoid arthritits
Condition: Rheumatoid Arthritis
State: AL, FL, NJ, OH, PA, TX, WA
Back Pain
Changes in Cerebral Blood Flow in Patients Treated With Spinal Cord Stimulation for Low Back and Leg Pain
Purpose: The primary objective of this study is to identify the brain regions in which activity is affected by SCS. Baseline cerebral blood flow scans with the device turned off will be generated compared to scans produced with the device operating at parameters which produce optimal coverage of the painful areas. The relationship between cerebral blood flow and pain rating scores will be evaluated in both conditions.
Condition: Low Back Pain, Leg Pain
State: NC
Double-Blind Placebo Study on Magnetic Field Therapy in Chronic Lumbar Pain
Purpose: This project is to assess the effectiveness of the use of magnets in reducing chronic lumbar pain. I understand that I will wear a flex pad (magnet) during waking hours and keep daily Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain scores to determine if wearing this device will reduce my constant pain. I understand that there are no adverse side effects known from the use of these magnets other than irritation at the site. The identical inactive pads (sham/placebo) have been supplied for use as controls.
Condition: Chronic Low Back Pain

Duloxetine vs. Placebo in Chronic Low Back Pain
Purpose: The primary purpose of your participation in this study is to help answer the following research question, and not to provide you treatment for your condition--Whether duloxetine once daily can help patients with Chronic Low Back Pain.
Condition: Back Pain Without Radiation
State: AZ, CA, CT, FL, IN, KY, MO, NY, OH SC, TX, WA, WI
Pilot Study to Evaluate The Effectiveness And Safety Of Axiom Worldwide Drx9000™ Spinal Decompression System
Condition: Low Back Pain
State: FL
Total Facet Arthroplasty System®(TFAS®) Clinical Trial
Purpose: The Archus Total Facet Arthroplasty System® (TFAS®) is a non-fusion spinal implant indicated for treatment of patients with moderate to severe spinal stenosis. TFAS® replaces the diseased facets following surgical removal. TFAS® offers the surgeon new options for treating spinal stenosis patients, enabling a more comprehensive decompression via complete removal of the facets. TFAS® also offers an alternative to rigid spinal fusion fixation enabling intervertebral motion. The clinical trial is intended to demostrate restoration of stability and sagittal balance to the spine. TFAS® also eliminates the need for painful bone graft harvest from the patient’s hip which may be required with fusion procedures.
Condition: Spinal Stenosis, Low Back Pain, Spondylolisthesis
Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, Leg Pain, Spinal Diseases
State: CA, CO, CT, FL, TX, WA
The Use of Manual Therapy to Treat Low-Back and Hip Pain
Purpose: Low back pain (LBP) is a common problem in the adult population with many approaches to treatment, but no clear answer. One of the causes of LBP, musculoskeletal pain, can be triggered by spasm of the deep muscles of the back and pelvis. This study, therefore, focuses on treating pelvic muscle pain as a way of lessening LBP.
Condition: Low Back Pain
State: OK
Cancer Pain
Vitamin D Deficiency and Muscle Pain and/or Joint Pain in Postmenopausal Women Receiving Letrozole for Stage I, Stage II, or Stage III Breast Cancer
Purpose: A study that evaluates vitamin D deficiency and muscle pain and/or joint pain in patients receiving letrozole for breast cancer may help doctors predict a patient's response to treatment and help plan the best treatment.
Condition: Breast Cancer, Pain
State: WA
Musculoskeletal Diseases
Duloxetine Versus Placebo for Osteoarthritis Knee Pain
Purpose: The primary purpose of this study is to determine if duloxetine reduces pain severity in patients with osteoarthritis knee pain.
Condition: Osteoarthritis Knee Pain
State: AZ, CA, FL, IL, MA, NV, NJ, OK, TX, PR
Nervous System Diseases
Pregabalin Treatment of Peripheral Neuropathic Pain Associated With Post-Herpetic, (HIV,Chemoterapy) Diabetic Induced
Purpose: Management of neuropatic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, human immunodeficiency virus-related peripheral neuropathy, and chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy.
Condition: Diabetic Neuropathic Pain, Postherpetic Neuralgia, HIV Related Peripheral Neuropathic Pain; Chemoterapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathic Pain
State: none specified
Spinal Cord Stimulation Versus Nerve Blocks and Physical Therapy
Purpose: The primary objective of this study is to compare the efficacy of SCS using the Precision implantable neurostimulation device and conventional medical treatment (nerve blocks + physical therapy) in subjects with recently-diagnosed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) after some more conservative treatments have failed. There are significant numbers of patients with CRPS in whom conventional treatment is ineffective and SCS is used only as a last resort. If SCS is effective earlier in the treatment continuum, it would provide a much needed treatment alternative and increase awareness of the utility of SCS for this indication. It is also possible that early intervention with SCS may limit disease progression.
Condition: Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Trial of Analgesia With Lidocaine or Extended-Release Oxycodone for Neuropathic Pain
Purpose: This study will determine whether treatment with an extended-release opioid or topical lidocaine is effective in relieving distal symmetric lower extremity burning pain associated with multiple sclerosis (MS). If treatment with topical lidocaine is efficacious, it will have important implications for understanding this chronic pain syndrome, which is widely assumed to be caused by central nervous system pathology
Condition: Neuropathic Pain, Chronic Pain, Multiple Sclerosis
State: NY
Pain, Intractable
A Safety and Effectiveness Study of Intraspinal MDT2004 for the Treatment of Chronic Pain.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and minimum effective dose of intraspinal MDT2004 when delivered through an implanted drug infusion system.
Condition: Chronic Intractable Pain
State: none specifiec
User-Computer Interface
Human Factors Analysis in VR for Burn Treatment
Purpose: A number of studies have shown that virtual reality (VR) can be used to distract patients from pain and anxiety during painful medical procedures for which medication provides inadequate relief. An inexpensive, commercially available VE could have significant impact in reducing perceived pain involved in a variety of medical procedures. The Virtual Reality Medical Center (VRMC) developed an engaging virtual world that proved to be effective in reducing reported pain ratings of participants experiencing several different forms of painful stimuli. The virtual world called Icy Cool World was found to successfully distract patients from painful stimuli and reduce patients’ perceived levels of pain. Phase II looks to expand on these findings and examine the effectiveness as a pain distraction technique for a variety of acute and chronic pain etiologies. The main objective of the clinical investigation will be to expand on the findings from earlier studies and obtain a more comprehensive analysis regarding the clinical versatility of VR pain distraction.
